Premiere Bay Area vocal coach, Raz Kennedy presents Vocal Effects, a dynamic single day masterclass, exploring safe approaches to stylistic techniques implemented across musical genres. The intention of this masterclass is to expand a singer's realm of possibility for artistic expression.
Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of how to add vocal textures and flavor to their performances without causing damage to their instrument. Raz Kennedy will debunk common misconceptions about healthy vs. unhealthy sounds and share his unique methods for creating vocal effects with ease and without discomfort.
Together, we will examine how to create distortion (James Brown, Janis Joplin), apply rattle (Ray Charles, Prince), growl (Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder), grunt (Davey Havok of AFI, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God), accomplish creaking (Britney Spears, Marilyn Manson), add air to a tone (Janet Jackson, Lana Del Rey), incorporate different types of vibrato (Pavarotti, Jennifer Hudson), and execute intentional vocal breaks (Sia, Jack White) without hinderance.
Singers of all musical styles and backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to participate.
